New Writing/New Work
Mairead McGrath (MA)
Much of Mairead’s working life has been spent in a rehearsal room or theatre space bringing Irish stories to the stage. Making plays is what she does. Taking a script, putting it on the floor, collaborating with writers, designers actors, musicians, crews, to give voice to the stories that need to be told.
From Theatre Studies at TCD, Mairead began her work at The Abbey Theatre. She has worked at The Gate, Druid Theatre Company, Charabanc, The Lyric, touring to London, New York, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland, North and South, including all the islands.
New Writing/New Work has been central to her work. She returned to UCD for an MA in Performance Studies and has since been on reading panels for all of the above. Curated & directed workshops and public performances at the Peacock, The Abbey and Druid Debuts among others.
Highlights include Terminus by Mark O Rowe (Abbey); The Power of Darkness by John Mc Gahern (Abbey); Una Pooka by Micheal Harding (Peacock); The Leenanne Trilogy by Martin McDonagh (Druid); Here Comes Trouble by Mikel Murfi (Hawkswell).
Since moving to the North West, Mairead has received support from Cavan & Leitrim Co Co to develop work for the stage.
